AMT specializes in advanced technology applications ranging from APC and
Optimization systems through to dynamic simulators for training and trouble
shooting.
Advanced Process Control:
With significant experience in both Honeywell’s Profit Suite (Profit
Controller/ RMPCT) and Aspen’s Manufacturing Suite (DMCplus), as well as with the unique capabilities
of CTC’s UPID package, AMT offers a broad range of services.
Real Time Optimization:
The “Open Equation” approach to real time optimization was developed in the
1980’s and commercialized in the 1990’s. AMT consultants were among the pioneers
in applying real time optimization technology from its inception. With extensive
experience in applying RTO technology, AMT can provide consulting services for
any optimization system for a wide range of chemical and refining processes.
Dynamic Simulators:
With CTC’s development of the technology to enable flexible and realistic
dynamic simulations in a cost effective way AMT is capable of providing
services in this emerging field.
The range of services offered covers
project services
,
consulting services
,
application maintenance services
and
training in all of
the technology areas that AMT is engaged in.

Projects
Our customers determine the type of engagement model that AMT will use when
working with them. AMT offers the following range of project services:
-
Turn–key Application Implementation:
-
Application Assessment, Preliminary
Engineering Design, Process Unit(s) Evaluation, Detailed Design,
Implementation, Documentation, Training and Overall Project
Management.
-
Joint Projects Involving Customer Resources:
-
Project teams made up of both AMT and Client resources
-
AMT's experience leveraged across a team of AMT and Client resources.
-
Technology and know–how transfer and a
successful application are the primary goals.
-
Program and Project Management:
-
For turn–key projects AMT will use a project management approach designed to
match the customer's internal project management practices, including:
Risk Assessment, Project Base–Lining, Schedule Tracking, Critical Path
Management.
-
For large multi site or multi technology
projects AMT can provide a single point of project
accountability and management bringing together the appropriate
skills, resources and technologies from all possible sources as
necessary. In this model AMT can bring in multiple third party
resources as required by the technology, schedule and resourcing
of the project.
A flexible approach to the engagement model
ensures that project services are provided in the most appropriate
way and at the right level. A broad range of service levels is
required to match the customer's different levels of resources,
infrastructure, knowledge and experience.

Maintenance
AMT believe that advanced control applications' performance can be improved
through a partnership with local plant staff. A key factor in maintaining
advanced applications is ensuring local personnel have key skills in
implementing and maintaining successful controllers
-
AMT provide consulting services and engineer training in a program designed to
enable the refinery or chemical plant to properly support its advanced control
and optimization systems.
-
On–site consulting is provided to determine the order in which applications
should be maintained or re–engineered (i.e. triage the list of applications)
and services provided to lead the refinery or chemical plant team in this work.
-
Routine site visits are made to provide on–site expertise and to regularly
review application performance first hand.
-
Remote support is provided via email,
telephone, and remote conferencing and application sharing
technologies.

Training
AMT offers the following training solutions:
Traditional and Advanced Process Control training
AMT offers standard training courses and workshops in traditional and
multivariable advanced control technologies.
-
DMCplus intermediate users workshop
-
DMCplus tips and tricks for advanced users workshop
-
Aspen SmartStep workshop
-
Aspen Watch workshop
-
ProfitController Implementation workshop
-
Configuring and tuning PID regulatory control loops
The training courses are usually offered on site and are tailored to specific
site needs; they normally include working with actual plant data and controller
problems from the site to bring maximum 'hands on' benefit from the workshops.
Courses can also be presented at AMT's offices in Europe and the USA.
AMT currently provide public training workshops in the UK and in Houston USA
– please contact us or send email for further information.

Operator Advisor Plant Simulators
Operator training is an increasingly important aspect of running any process
unit. A revolutionary approach to developing detailed dynamic simulators has
been created by the Cutler Technology Corporation (
http://www.cutler-tech.com/
). These can be used for either training simulators or more importantly in an
on–line setting as an "Operator Advisor" (OA).
The OA application contains a detailed dynamic simulation of the process that
is connected to the plant DCS system reading plant data in real time. The OA
dynamic simulation is continuously kept current by reading the real time plant
data, then updating and adjusting the simulation to ensure consistency with the
plant. Both regulatory control structure and current operating point of the
plant are continuously matched by the OA system. The operator can take this
simulation off–line at any time to perform training, "what if" studies on the
plant as well process and control system trouble shooting.
The OA system is very inexpensive to build and maintain. The starting point
for the OA dynamic simulation is the model currently used in any multivariable
control application such as DMCplus or RMPCT. Extending this model and
building an operator interface are the main requirements to developing an OA
system from a multivariable controller model.
AMT develop these dynamic simulation systems using the CTC software. CTC staff
are available as necessary to provide any specialized technical support to any
OA development project.
